Bio
Dr. Nubia Macedo is a faculty member in the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine at Iowa State University. She is responsible for overseeing the Bacteriology Laboratory at the ISU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, which handles a diverse range of specimens submitted for bacterial identification, including the application of cutting-edge technology such as mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF), sequence-based testing, and automated antimicrobial susceptibility system.
Her research work focuses on using bacteriological and molecular methods to advance the diagnosis and identification of existing and novel pathogens. Primarily, Dr. Macedo’s research focuses on understanding the diagnosis and immunopathogenesis of bacterial diseases, with the main goal being the development and implementation of new methods to diagnose infections, especially those caused by opportunistic bacterial pathogens. Additionally, she investigates antimicrobial-resistance patterns of common animal pathogens and she teaches microbiology to undergraduate and graduate students and collaborators.
