Bio
Nikolai Lauk received the graduation degree from the University of Kaiserslautern, Kaiserslautern, Germany. He worked on optical quantum memories and optical-to-microwave
quantum transducer protocols using rare-earth-ion-doped crystals with the University of
Kaiserslautern. He is a Scientist with the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA, USA.
His research interests include theoretical aspects of quantum networks, in particular modeling
diverse quantum networking protocols for implementations in various platforms. He later joined
the Group of Christoph Simon, University of Calgary, Calgary, AB, Canada, where he developed
implementation proposals for entanglement-based quantum networks using single defects in
transparent crystals, and superconducting devices. As a Postdoctoral Scholar and Intelligent
Quantum Networks and Technologies Fellow with Maria Spiropulu, California Institute of
Technology, he has been working on modeling photonic quantum networks and other quantum
information projects involving quantum transduction and fundamental physics.
