I have extensive expertise in the fields of metabolism, epigenetics, and developmental genetics. Over the past many years, I have been addressing the key unanswered questions underlying the pathophysiology of metabolic syndrome. I have discovered novel metabolic pathways that sustains hepatic lipid synthesis in an insulin resistant liver. I have uncovered molecular mechanisms that causes diet-induced fatty liver disease and the corresponding changes in the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. I have identified a unique histone signature that can be leveraged to regenerate more beta cells in the pancreas to treat type I and type II diabetes.
