Nebiyu Dereje

Dr Nebiyu is an epidemiologist and senior public health researcher who is passionate about broader aspects of public health research mainly focusing on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) including cancers and their risk factors. His work concentrates on the pathways to diagnosis and treatment of breast and cervical cancer ― more specifically the extent of delays, their associations with unfavorable outcomes, stage distributions, barriers to early detection and treatment of cancers, outcomes, and survival analysis. Moreover, maternal and child health topics are areas of his research interests. He is experienced in advanced data analysis methods and familiar with different epidemiological study designs and mixed-method approaches. Technically, he is familiar with different statistical software such as R, STATA, SPSS, Epi-info, data management tools such as DHIS2, ODK, REDcap, and data visualization tools such as MS Power BI. He has also demonstrated ample public health program implementation experience in the public health areas such as disease surveillance, routine surveillance data management and analysis, and PHEOC – Incident management system. Furthermore, he has served in different leadership positions as a technical director, chief executive director of a teaching hospital and medical college, dean of the health and medicine college, research coordinator and project team leader in national and international organizations.
