个人简介
Dr. Li’s scientific contributions have been numerous and varied but have always focused on the genetics and biology of drug addiction, especially on nicotine dependence. He has used various high-throughput and functional genomics and conventional molecular techniques with both in vivo and in vitro models. His research has revealed not only susceptibility loci for smoking dependence, but also common susceptibility loci for multiple addictions. Further, his group has identified and characterized more than 20 vulnerability genes for smoking and other addiction. Since 1998, Dr. Li and his clinical collaborators have built one of the largest DNA banks in the world for genetic study of smoking addiction, which today contains approximately 10,000 smoker and non-smoker samples of Caucasian- or African-American origin. The African-American samples, which particular efforts were made to collect, are of special value to addiction scientists, as little drug-dependence research has been done on this population. During that time, as Principal Investigator, Dr. Li was awarded more than $20 million in R01 grants by the National Institutes of Health to study the genetics of tobacco dependence and has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers in neuropsychopharmacology and molecular pharmacology, molecular and statistical genetics, and computational biology and bioinformatics, many of which have been well received by other scientists in the addiction research field, as shown by the citation scores.
