Mikko Vastaranta received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in forest resource science and technology from the University of Helsinki (UH), Helsinki, Finland, in 2007 and 2012, respectively. During the last five years, he worked as a Research Scientist with the Centre of Excellence in Laser Scanning Research, University Lecturer in Forest Planning with UH, and a Visiting Research Scientist with Pacific Forestry Centre, (Canadian Forestry Service, Natural Resources Canada). He is currently an Associate Professor with the School of Forest Sciences, University of Eastern Finland. He also holds an Adjunct Professorship of remote sensing of forests, UH. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles. His current research interests include detailed remote sensing of forests and improved use of forest resource information.
