Seleted on-going research: 1) Crystal nucleation of pharmaceutical compounds. This project explores the fundamentals of primary nucleation from solution, focusing on characterising and understanding solute clustering in solutions. 2) Thermodynamics of crystallisation. This project focuses on improving descriptions and models of solid-liquid solubility and supersaturation, the thermodynamic driving force for crystallisation. 3) Development of hydrodynamic separation processes to recover valuable products from waste streams. The focus is currently on recovery of rare earth elements using methods based in crystallization (eutectic freeze crystallization, antisolvent crystallization) and chromatography.
