个人简介
I use crystal growth, solid state chemistry, and metallurgical synthesis techniques, crystallographic studies, and physical property measurements to explore structure-property relationships in complex materials, with particular emphasis on magnetism. My research is currently focused on anisotropic ferromagnets and layered transition metal compounds. The ferromagnet work involves the synthesis, processing, and characterization of candidate rare-earth-free permanent magnet materials as well as thermo-magnetic processing of rare-earth permanent magnets. I also use the tools of solid state chemistry and condensed matter physics to study how magnetic and structural properties evolve with chemical substitutions in cleavable magnetic materials and compounds related to the iron-pnictide superconductors. Other interests include transport and structure in thermoelectric materials, crystallographic phase transitions and their effects on physical properties, and birds.
