The experimental laboratories in Oslo and Bristol work in tandem developing neuroprotective treatment for babies including mechanisms for long term brain repair. Currently we study hypothermic neuro- and cardiac protection combined with other substances including the inert gas Xenon.We assess the combined effects during resuscitaion or an experimental insult of hyperoxia, hypothermia, inflammation and stress. Recently we documented that a small inflammatory stimulus prior to hypothermiatreatment abolished the effect of cooling. We also follow our large cohort of cooled babies (since 1998) and their outcome.
