个人简介
Her achievements include: awarded Fellowship of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (2012) for ’Outstanding contribution to research in the physiotherapy profession’ and an OBE in the Queen’s Honours List in 2018 for ‘Services to physiotherapy research’.
Research Interests
Her research focuses on enabling lifelong active living by optimising musculoskeletal health, spanning the activity spectrum from elite sport to frailty. Her research programme includes:
• Developing targeted neuromuscular exercise programmes for joint health and protection from injury and osteoarthritis, and rehabilitation of good quality movement.
• Mechanisms of musculoskeletal dysfunction and recovery to inform neuromuscular exercise interventions (from elite sport to frail elderly and deconditioned astronauts). Her background in neuromuscular physiology drives the studies of mechanisms that underpin clinical studies to enable interventions to be targeted.
• Technologies to aid research and interventions: developing/novel applications of assessment tools and assistive devices and establishing their validity and reliability, including: rehabilitative ultrasound imaging (RUSI) to evaluate and re-educate muscle function; movement quality assessment tools (neuromuscular control); mechanomyography (MMG; measurement of muscle sounds/vibrations); and Myoton technology to investigate muscle tone and mechanical properties in musculoskeletal and neurological disorders.
• Musculoskeletal health of astronauts to minimise deconditioning in microgravity.
• Strength and balance in mature recreational golfers
• Enabling physical activity for lifelong health, focussing on adherence strategies for sustained activity.
