Maria E Niemi

I am a researcher at Karolinska Institutet with specific interest in mind-body medicine and it's uses in the promotion of mental well-being and prevention of mental illness. At the moment I am coordinating a clinical trial of mindfulness, studying the associations between physiological and mental aspects of health and well-being, and how these factors are transmitted from mother to child during the perinatal period. Alongside my research I am also coordinator for Sustainable Development for the boards of higher education at Karolinska Institutet, as well as course director in the same topic - my special interest is thus the interplay between mental health and Sustainable Development. I am also a trained instructor in the evidence-based mind-body method 'Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction', working at the Karolinska Institutet health promotion, teaching mindfulness skills to employees.
