My research area: Risk Management for High-tech systems
How to design drones, robots, railway systems and smart grids that are safe and reliable?
I lead a research team that develops quantitative risk assessments methods: techniques to analyze, predict and improve the reliability of complex systems, e.g. via fault trees, model-based testing, and reliability modeling. Predictive maintanance, human factors and the interplay between safety and security have my special interest.
Technically, I realize these techniques through stochastic model checking, a state-of-the-art analysis technique for stochastic systems. In particular, I deploy compositionality: I derive risk profiles for a complex system from risk profiles of its components. This makes life easy, flexible and fast.
I am the programme leader of executive Master on Risk Management, a part-time master programme for risk professionals; I hold advisory roles at Schouten & Nelissen University of Applied Sciences, and Nyenrode University.
Further, I am involved in the innovative BSc programme on Creative Technology BSc programme, teaching Have Fun & Play, a collaboration with the GOGBOT festival. I lead innovation sessions with several stakeholders.
I am proud to hold a prestigious ERC consolidator grant on the integration of Safety and Security risks. I also lead a large national consortium on Predictive Maintenance, funded by the Dutch National Research Agenda NWA.
