Bio
Marco Montali received a BEng cum laude in Computer Science Engineering in 2003, a MEng
cum laude in Computer Science Engineering degree in 2005, and a PhD in Electronics, Computer
Science and Telecommunications Engineering in 2009. He is currently Senior Researcher (Ricercatore
a Tempo Determinato Senior ) at the KRDB Research Centre for Knowledge and Data, Faculty of
Computer Science, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.
In 2013, he got the Italian Associate Professorship Habilitation in Computer Engineering (09/H1).
In 2014, he got the Italian Associate Professorship Habilitation in Computer Science (01/B1).
His research activity focuses on foundational, methodological and experimental aspects of knowledge
representation and automated reasoning for the intelligent, holistic management of processes and data,
encompassing the formal specification, verification, monitoring and mining of data-aware business
processes, clinical guidelines, service-oriented and multiagent systems.
On these topics, he authored a Springer monograph and more than 90 papers, published in top-level,
peer-reviewed international journals, conferences and workshops, such as ACM TWEB, ACM TIST,
JAIR, JAAMAS, Fund. Inf., IJWSR, IJEC, PODS, IJCAI, KR, AAAI, AAMAS, ECAI, BPM, ICLP,
ICSOC, CAISE, ICWS.
His current h-index is 20, with 1428 overall citations (source: Google Scholar, as of March 2, 2015).
His PhD dissertation was honored with the 2007-2009 “Marco Cadoli” Distinguished Dissertation
Award, given by the Italian Association for Logic Programming to the most outstanding italian theses
focused on computational logic. He is recipient of two best paper awards.
He is lecturer of Data and Process Modelling at the Master in Computer Science, Faculty of Computer
Science, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.
