个人简介
Dr. Marcello Gori is a Mechanical Engineer at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). He earned a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Aeronautics from Caltech in the field of fracture dynamics and mechanics of materials. Dr. Marcello Gori joined JPL in 2018 and has contributed to projects including the mechanical characterization of the interactions of spacecraft components with planetary shallow crust, the investigation of anomalies associated to flight test unit (FTU) subsystems for the M2020 Perseverance Rover, the development of high energy absorption (additively manufactured) lattices for unassisted landing for the Mars Sample Return (MSR) mission, and the investigation and mitigation of wear and damage of tribological systems. A significant portion of Dr. Gori's contribution has been on the mechanical characterization of planetary simulants, including ices, for missions aimed at surface sample collection on bodies in the Solar Systems such as Mars, Europa and Enceladus. These characterizations have been carried out across a large variety of mechanical configurations, temperatures from ambient to cryogenic, and strain rates from quasi static to fully dynamic.
