Research themes
Marc Fourmigué develops a crystal engineering approach of molecular materials, particularly aiming at controlling the physical properties (conductivity, magnetism) of crystalline molecular radical assemblies through directional intermolecular interactions. The main research efforts are directed toward :
the conception and synthesis of radical species derived from organic molecules (tetrathiafulvalenes) and coordination and organometallic complexes (homoleptic and heteroleptic dithiolene complexes ),
the crystal growth (i.e. diffusion, sublimation, electrocrystallization) and crystal structure determination and analysis of solid state organizations
the evaluation of their electric (conductivity, dielectrics) and magnetic properties, and its rationalization (crystal structure, band structure calculations)
the combination of overlap interactions of radical species with intermolecular interactions such as halogen or chalcogen bonding, segregation effects, chirality, in crystal engineering approaches,
the development of model systems for the understanding of halogen bonding, in crystalline materials, on surfaces and in solution.
