My early research centered on chemical weathering processes in river basins and associated element fluxes to ocean; application of U-Th decay series nuclides to study particle-dynamics and carbon export in upper ocean. In recent years, my research is focused on carbonaceous aerosols from biomass burning emissions in northern India; atmospheric mineral dust, long-range transport and chemical processing; air-sea deposition of mineral dust and anthropogenic trace metals to the Indian Ocean.
