Mahmood Yaghoubi

Khwarizmi Outstanding Researcher Mahmood Yaghoubi was born on October 17, 1945 in Zahedan, Iran. He received BS in Mechanical Engineering at 1371 and MS at 1973 from Shiraz University. He went for further studies to USA and received Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, USA in 1978. Prof. Yaghoubi returned to Shiraz University in1978. He is a pioneer in studying renewable energy and mainly solar energy applications at high temperature in Iran. He spent one year sabbatical at Palermo University, grant from Center of Theoretical Physic, Trieste, Italy. He is fellow member of several societies such as Academy of Sciences, I.R. Iran, Iranian Society of Mechanical Engineers, member of ASME and member of editorial board of several Iranian and overseas journals and conferences. He published and presented more than 430 articles in various peer-reviewed journals, national and international conferences. Prof. Yaghoubi carried out several national research projects, such as: 1-Prestigious project of design, consultancy, and operation of 250kW solar parabolic thermal power plant, which produces superheat steam of 252 °C and 21 bar for power generation, processes heating, solar desalination and cooling systems. 2-Design, construction of 100 m long 5.7 m aperture solar parabolic trough collector with 200kW heating capacity and software-hydraulic tracking system. 3-Design & construction of a control room for studying heat exchanger elements and PV systems. 4-Experimental study of PV electrical performances, regarding tilt angle, orientation, dust effect and cleaning period in Shiraz, Iran for short and long periods. Prof. Yaghoubi received many awards & honors for teaching, experimental and theoretical studies such as: 1. Shiraz University Distinguish Professor, four periods. 2. Abadi Prize, Best project “optimization of building energy consumption” Ministry of Building, Iran, 1995. 3. Iranian Distinguished Professor, award from Ministry of Sciences, Research and Technology, 2007 4. Khwarizmi applied research award, 2009. 5. Research and teaching excellence, Shiraz University, 4 periods. 6. Book of the year, award from the President of I.R. Iran, (joint with Prof. Bahadori) 2008. 7. Book of the year in Mechanical Engineering, Awards from Tehran, Sharif and Amirkabir Universities. 8. Award for the best project in Science and Technology development of 30 years of Fars province, Iran. 9. A.Tabatabi National Award, Iranian National Elite Foundation, 2012, and Distinguished National Professor, Afzalipoor Award, 2013. 10. Upper One Percent Distinguished World Scientist, Shiraz University Award, 2018.
