个人简介
Maggie Munthali is the Research Fellow at MwAPATA Institute, an independent Malawi-led agricultural policy think tank in Malawi. Her role involves research and policy analysis on climate change and natural resources management. She generates knowledge and engage stakeholders to ensure that policymakers use evidence for decision-making towards achieving the long-term vision, Malawi2063. Maggie has PhD in Geography, University Pretoria, South Africa, specializing in the use of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for forest and natural resource management. She also has MSc. in Sustainable Soil Resource Management, University of Nairobi, Kenya and BSc Forestry (Mzuzu University, 2008). Additionally, she has over 10 years’ work experience in forestry research and development, climate change, ecosystem services valuation, natural resource management and integrated soil fertility management. She has extensive experience in the integration of social elements including gender, disadvantaged and vulnerable groups in forestry interventions. Maggie has more than 10 peer-reviewed publications.
Prior to joining MwAPATA Institute, she worked with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining as Principal Forestry Officer. Maggie is a recipient of prestigious awards and fellowships including African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), Leadership for Environment and Development Fellowship Programme (LEAD), Schlumberger Faculty for the Future Fellowship Programme, The Structural Transformation of African and Asian Agriculture and Rural Spaces (STAAARS+) Fellows program of the USAID Innovation Lab for Food Security Policy, Research, Capacity and Influence(PRCI), USDA Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship Program (Borlaug Fellowship Program), AGRA Fellowship Programme and Strengthening Impact Evaluation Capacities for Development (SIECD) in East and West Africa ( an initiative by The Partnership for Economic Policy, supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation). Maggie currently sits on number of international and national advisory board and committees including the Governing council for women in GMEs and Africa (African Union Commission Programme) as a Research Lead, Member of the National Steering Committee on GEF Small Grant Programme, Malawi National Task Team on Small-scale Fisheries and Conservation Arts. During her free time, Maggie motivates and inspires girls and women to pursue STEM subjects through mentorship programs.
