Markus Zabel was born in Darmstadt, Germany. He received the M.D. degree from the University of Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany, in 1990. He is currently an Assistant Professor in Clinical Cardiology and Internal Medicine with the Charité—Campus Benjamin Franklin, Department of Cardiology in Berlin, Germany and heads the clinical electrophysiology division. From 1992 to 1994, he completed a Merck International research fellowship with Georgetown University and the VA Medical Center in Washington, D.C., Divisions of Cardiology. His research interests are in risk stratification for sudden cardiac death, in particular using electrocardiographic methods, the pathophysiology of ventricular repolarization, and the ventricular action potential.
