Ibañez Mariam

Dra. Mariam Ibáñez, obtained her Ph.D. in Biology at Universitat de València (2013). Then, she continued her career as postdoctoral researcher in the hematopoietic field working at IISLAFE, Kings College London (UK), and, recently, CIBERONC. During her training, she has stayed in 3 hematology and bioinformatics reference centers, first at the Zentrum für Innere Medizin in Ulm (Germany); later in the Department of Bioinformatics and Genomics, Príncipe Felipe Research Center (CIPF), Valencia; and later in the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics of MDS, Section of Hemato-oncology of Kings College London, (UK). Since 2009, Dr. Ibáñez has combined clinical and research work, focusing her career on the study of the genetic alterations in oncohematological diseases, mainly, the biological characterization of acute leukemias and myelodysplastic syndromes. Mariam Ibáñez has made important contributions to the hematological field (h-index:11), authored or coauthored more than 35 publications in high impact factor journals and more than 100 reports at international and national meetings. To date, she has participated in 20 different Public Funded Projects (15 nationals and 5 internationals; PI in one of them) focused on the characterization of patients with hematologic malignancies by next generation sequencing. The common goal of all these projects has been the molecular characterization of hematological neoplasms through massive sequencing, combining different omics, such as genomics and transcriptomics. As a general result from these projects, a series of bioinformatic analysis pipelines have been developed that allow us to detect and categorize the variants detected in our patients, analyzing paired samples (normal vs neoplastic tissue; sample at the time of diagnosis vs relapse and / or remission; wild-type vs mutated), enabling the stabilization of new biomarkers and the defining altered cellular pathways related to hematological neoplasms pathogenesis. Likewise, the knowledge acquired through the execution of these projects has allowed Dr. Ibáñez to actively participate in the development of the first transnational clinical guidelines for the application of next generation sequencing in the diagnosis of patients with myelodysplastic syndromes. The National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity (CNEAI) has recognized a twelveyear period of its research activity (2 sexenios). Dr. Ibáñez also participates actively in various scientific societies, such as the SEHH, GELLC, ERIC, AEGH, GESMD and GCECGH. Finally, Dra. Ibáñez is an associate professor at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University, in the Degree of Medicine. She has organized 5 International Student Congresses at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University, has led 5 Bachelor final projects, 3 Master's final project and is currently leading 3 doctoral theses.
