Dr Jelen studied Medicine and Neuroscience at Newcastle University. He completed a Masters in Psychiatric Research at King’s College London before undertaking clinical academic training in psychiatry and experimental medicine as an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow and NIHR Maudsley BRC Clinical Research Fellow. He has conducted research investigating brain glutamate dynamics in healthy and psychiatric groups and is interested in understanding the rapid acting antidepressant mechanisms of treatments including ketamine and psilocybin. Dr Jelen has been awarded an MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship and is currently undertaking a PhD, investigating glutamate and opioid mechanisms of antidepressant response to ketamine, under the supervision of Prof Mitul Mehta, Prof Allan Young and Dr James Stone at King’s College London.
