Dr Veschini's research focuses on understanding the dynamics of tissue-specific blood and lymphatic vessels development and functions using human induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (hiPSC) as a model system. He is involved in developing methods to differentiate hiPSC into specialised endothelial and vascular accessory cells (arterious/venous EC, pericytes, Pc, and smooth muscle cells, SMC) and co-culturing these cells in 3D to model vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. He uses high throughput imaging and high content image analysis for cell phenotyping and lab-on-a-chip devices to generate perfused vessels in 3D under the influence of well-defined and spatiotemporally coordinated molecular signals. Overall, this research will help gain a better understanding over the mechanisms of vascular morphogenesis and functional specialisation and to investigate the potential of engineered vessels to promote the growth of different tissues in vitro.
