Research Interests
We visualize materials at the atomic scale, and try to understand how light interacts with surfaces. Our main tools are aberration-corrected STEM (scanning transmission electron microscopy) and monochromated EELS (electron energy loss spectroscopy). By designing and making new nanostructures of 2D materials and noble metals, we apply our research to the advancement of microelectronics and green energy. Fabricating and observing invisibly small structures and devices will inspire students who are interested to work at the boundary between pure science and real-world applications. Theoretically- and experimentally-inclined PhD applicants aiming for an AGS or ISEP scholarship are always welcome to contact me. Find the light—and substance—at the atomic scale!
