Lukas Flatz

Lukas Flatz is a professor of dermatology and section head dermato-oncology at the University of Tübingen, Germany. His group is dedicated to deciphering the mechanisms of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) of immune checkpoint inhibitors that influence treatment toxicity and efficacy. His work is based on the hypothesis that proteins co-expressed in tumors and normal tissues are antigenic targets in irAEs. In this seminar, he will provide mechanistic insight into irAEs and introduce a novel approach to identify tumor-associated antigens called DITAS (Discovery of tumor-associated self-antigens). Lukas is a clinician-scientist, received his MD from University of Bern, Switzerland, and performed his postdoctoral training with Rolf Zinkernagel/Hans Hengartner in Zürich and Gary Nabel at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD. He is board certified in dermatology in Germany and Switzerland. His work is supported by the German Research Foundation DFG, the Swiss National Science Foundation, and the Cancer League.
