Bio
I am a tech / product guy who likes to make data tools that help underserved organizations. The idea for Captricity came from my graduate research in rural health clinics in Uganda and Tanzania. There, I helped find patients “lost” to HIV treatment, and helped community health workers to count danger signs -- both tasks were mired in paper forms. Being a data guy, I saw that the problem wasn't paper, but access and usage of data. From that perspective, we built Shreddr, a data-driven, crowd-guided machine learning engine that reads handwriting. Our hypothesis was that order of magnitude better data extraction would mean better analysis, efficiency and knowledge in organizations and industries that span the spectrum from healthcare and government to logistics and operations. Captricity has grown beyond these early roots into an enterprise-class, cloud-based data capture platform that serves customers in a wide range of industries worldwide. We are proud to have been incubated as part of the Code for America accelerator program, and continue to work in service of open data and open government. While our technology has evolved, our larger goal has remained the same: Our mission is to unlock the data that moves the world forward. For everyone.
