Bio
Kris A. Bertness (M’00–SM’01) received the B.A.
degree from Oberlin College, Oberlin, OH, USA, in 1981, and the Ph.D. degree in physics from Stanford University,
Stanford, CA, USA, in 1987.
She is a Project Leader in the Quantum Electronics and Photonics Division, National Institute of Standards and
Technology, Boulder, CO, USA. Her technical focus has been on III–V semiconductor crystal growth,
characterization, and device design, including research on nanowires and quantum dots. Prior to joining the NIST in
1995, she developed record-efficiency solar cells at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and at Varian Research
Center.
