Bio
Konstantin V. Khlopenkov received the M.S. degree in plasma physics from
the State Technical University, Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 1992 and the Ph.D. degree in plasma physics from the
Graduate University for Advanced Studies, Toki, Japan, in 1999. His postgraduate research was focused on the development
of new diagnostic methods to measure heat and particle transport in hot plasmas.
From 2003 to 2009, he was with the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing as a Postdoctoral Fellow and then as a Research
Scientist developing innovative algorithms for processing global climate data sets, for cloud detection, and for the
geolocation of satellite imagery. Since 2009, he is a Senior Research Scientist with Science Systems and Applications,
Inc., Hampton, VA, USA. His major fields are remote sensing methods, cloud screening, contrail detection with wind
advection, orbital mechanics and subpixel georeferencing, image noise filtering, and other image processing
techniques.
