I have conducted research to understand the mechanisms for sex (male and female) differentiation of animals. Based on the functions of nuclear receptors and steroid hormones, I analyze the molecular mechanisms of sex differentiation of the gonads (testis and ovary), adrenal cortex and skeletal muscle. Moreover, epigenetic regulation of energy production and metabolism for lipophilic compounds has been studied in relation to functions of nuclear receptors. In addition to organizing international conferences and giving lectures in the international symposium of this research field, I organized a research project to study Molecular Mechanisms of Sex Differentiation as one of the Priority Areas of the Scientific Research by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan from 2004 to 2009. Moreover, from 2010 to 2014, I organize as the representative researcher the project to study Molecular Basis of Sex Difference.
I supervise PhD students of Graduate School of Systems Life Science and receive PhD students from other universities.
In order to disclose our research observations, I organize open seminar and give a talk in the seminar. Recently, I cooperate with NHK to produce TV program.
