Summary: I design courses by aligning the instructional goals of the course with the
assessments students complete and the instruction they receive. I create assessments that
provide immediate and relevant feedback to students whenever possible. My instruction is
example-focused with many modalities of active learning, such as live coding, student pair
coding, “clicker” quizzes, think-pair-share activities, and reflection prompts.

process of learning for students and teachers. My thesis work was on the development of
data-driven tutoring techniques, mostly in the domain of programming. This system could
automatically generate personalized next-step hints for students in code-writing problems
based on past student submissions. My current work focuses on using student code to
provide real-time formative feedback to teachers, which can then inform instruction.
