DEVELOPMENT OF GRAPHENE SUPPORTED METAL OXIDE CATALYST FOR ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION
As a Newton Fellow, I will addresses hydroxyl radical generation through graphene oxide-metal oxide composite photocatalysts for the energy efficient depollution of contaminated water. The degradation of refractory organic compounds in wastewater employing such GO metal oxide composite will be achieved through the development of fundamental structure function relationships and subsequent rational design of next-generation depollution catalysts. The GO-metal oxide nanocomposites proposed are also expected to exhibit novel adsorptive, catalytic and anti-bacterial properties, and thus also prove amenable for a range of catalytic chemical transformations relevant to environmental applications such as the selective oxidation of carbohydrates for the production of fine chemicals and energy.
