个人简介
Dr. Kumaran currently holds “Emeritus Scientist, CSIR” position since April 2011 at Agharkar Research Institute, Pune and is also a Visiting Faculty at Nowrosjee Wadia College, Pune for M.Sc Applied Petroleum Technology Programme. Dr Kumaran has contributed immensely to Palynology, vegetation dynamics and climate change over the past 30 years. His pioneering work on Triassic Palynology, Aquilapollenites-related palynoflora and the record of a mangrove fern from Deccan Intertrappean beds indicating an estuarine habitat for Central India during the Late Cretaceous and fossil chromosomes in Gondwanan plant constitute note-worthy contributions to Palaeobotany. His specialization has been applied to larger spheres in earth sciences, particularly in the fields of sea level oscillation and palaeoclimate changes. His present phase of work on the SW coast of India has been well recognized while addressing the vegetation dynamics and changing forest cover in relation to palaeoclimatology and land form evolution. He has already addressed the significance of mangroves and utility of mangrove deposits in palaeoclimate appraisal and evolution of the wetlands using sedimentological responses. Utility of Non Pollen Palynomorphs as an alternative source of palaeo-information in pollen scarcity sediments and their potential in palaeoenvironmental analysis has been well documented. His integrated approach of using multi-proxy tools for palaeoclimate study holds significance as it dealt on non-marine Pleistocene flora for the first time from Peninsular India and a hypothesis of extended period of monsoonal rains towards Late Pleistocene in Konkan .His current focus of work on Late Quaternary using modern analogues has immense potential to reconstruct long and comprehensive palaeoenvironmental and climate records and to provide a stronger basis for developing strategies for sustainable management of key environmental processes and their interaction with human activities
