The function of an electronic device, eg. a transistor radio can be explained based on its identifiable circuit elements; resistors, capacitors... Understanding the individual elements of a cortical circuit & how they interact brings us a closer to understanding the function of the circuit as a whole & ultimately its response to stimuli. The focus of the lab is to characterize the neurons of the barrel cortex emphasizing how the animals sensory expereince impacts their development & function.
