I am an eclectic problem-solver who loves to learn and apply diverse theories and tools for analyzing and tackling challenges.
Originally trained as an Electrical Engineer, I am keenly interested in control and automation. My work in this area included circuit design, embedded programming, analyzing and working around sensor, processor, and network quirks, distributed systems, and integration with Enterprise Resource Planning.
As a Computer Scientist, I have introduced new operating system techniques for greatly reducing data copying while preserving existing APIs, thereby also mostly eliminating network I/O performance penalties of microkernels. I also invented backward-compatible, incrementally deployable mechanisms for reserving server and internet resources for particular applications, servers, and/or clients. Reservations can improve real-time performance in presence of other load and thwart denial-of-service attacks.
