Jose Manuel Matamala

Medical Doctor (MD) from the University of Chile, where he specializes in Neurology. Master in Neurological Electrodiagnostics from the University of Barcelona, Spain. Doctor of Medicine from the University of Chile. Postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology and Motor Neuron Disease at the Brain and Mind Centre, University of Sydney (Australia), under the supervision of Prof. Matthew C. Kiernan, an international leader in Motor Neuron Disease. Training in Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring in Sao Paulo (Brazil), Boston (USA), and Philadelphia (USA). He is an Associate Professor of Neurology at the Department of Neurological Sciences (Hospital del Salvador) and the Department of Neuroscience, Faculty of Medicine, University of Chile. He leads the Translational Neurology and Neurophysiology Lab- NODO Lab. His research focuses on understanding pathophysiological mechanisms and discovering new biomarkers in neurological diseases, especially in motor neuron disease - amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and other neuromuscular diseases. He has published more than 60 ISI papers and is principal investigator of Fondecyt Regular - ANID.
