I am a design engineer and a knowledge mobiliser. I use participatory design and co-creation approaches to explore topics, collaborate with people and to develop skills, capabilities, products/services ... for health, wellbeing and equality. At the heart of all of these is a process of collective 'making' as a form of knowledge mobilisation, in which creative methods are used to create 'tangible interactions with evidence', so that co-design partners can make sense of complex evidence, form knowledge about it, and understand how it can be optimally applied in specific contexts. I believe that such approaches, when they include researchers, patients, families, community members, healthcare professionals and industry, produce products and services that work for users in-context-in-practice, give better experiences and reach people more quickly, bridging the research/practice gap.
