His primary scientific interests are in Bacteria, Shewanella oneidensis, Inorganic chemistry, Ecology and Shewanella. His Bacteria research integrates issues from Environmental chemistry and Microbiology. His studies examine the connections between Shewanella oneidensis and genetics, as well as such issues in Biochemistry, with regards to Biofilm.
His Inorganic chemistry research incorporates themes from Hydrous ferric oxides, Goethite, Shewanella putrefaciens and Metal. He interconnects Biological dispersal, Sediment and Aquifer in the investigation of issues within Ecology. His work carried out in the field of Shewanella brings together such families of science as Mutant, Bacterial outer membrane, Extracellular polymeric substance, Electron transfer and Cytochrome.
