个人简介
Areas of Teaching Focus
Dr. Towbin's teaching focus is on the identification, diagnosis, and treatment approaches to children and young adults with cardiomyopathies, heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, myocarditis, cardio-oncology and cardio-hematology, pre-heart transplant, heart transplantation, and post-heart transplantation.
Areas of Research/Scholarship Focus
Dr. Towbin’s expertise is in the clinical and translational arenas of childhood and young adult cardiomyopathy, heart failure, myocarditis, cardio-oncology and cardio-hematology, heart transplantation, myocardial recovery, and causes of sudden death. His translational research laboratory studies the genetic and mechanistic causes of cardiomyopathies and arrhythmias primarily, using human patient samples, mouse models and cell-based models. He is also focused on acquired causes of inflammatory heart disease. Clinical research is focused on cardiomyopathies (including non-compaction cardiomyopathy, cardio-oncology, sickle cell disease, myocarditis) and heart transplant recipients.
Areas of Clinical Care Focus
Dr. Towbin is the medical director of the genetic and acquired Pediatric Cardiomyopathy (including Cardio-Oncology and Cardio-Hematology), Heart Failure, and Heart Transplantation Services at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Professional Interests
Dr. Towbin's professional interests include clinical care for children with cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and heart transplantation, medical leadership, and translational research. He is also a member of many national and international societies and committees. Dr. Towbin is also the Vice Chair of Strategy for the Department of Pediatrics at UTHSC.
