个人简介
Professor Summers' current research is examining age-related declines in cognitive function. In collaboration with Dr Sarah Elder (Alzheimer's Association Tasmania), Dr Mathew Summers and Professor James Vickers, he is investigating whether a multidimensional cognitive enhancement program can moderate cognitive decline in healthy older adults and individuals with mild cognitive impairment. How cognitive training affects the structure and function of the ageing brain and the effect of genetic factors on response to the intervention are also being examined. A related project is using combined EEG-TMS to examine changes in task-related cortical activity separately for high and low performing older adults to gain greater insight into the question of whether the different neural recruitment patterns often reported in older participants reflect compensation for reductions in the efficiency of cortical networks or whether they are a negative consequence of the ageing process.
