Dr. Rests interests center on understanding the irradiation behavior of materials. He has devoted his research efforts toward the development of mechanistic models for the behavior of inert gases and irradiation-produced defects and impurities in nuclear fuels, and the synergistic role that these phenomena play in the microstructural evolution and deformation behavior of the material. Dr. Rest is the developer of the GRASS-SST and FASTGRASS fission-product behavior codes, and the DART dispersion analysis research tool. The latter two codes reside in the National Energy Software Center.
