John Scott is interested in the specificity of signal transduction events that are controlled by anchoring proteins, which facilitate rapid signal transduction by optimally positioning protein kinases and phosphatases in the vicinity of their activating signals and close to their substrates. He is working to forge a top-tier department based on a forward-thinking, diverse, and safe professional culture. Fostering diversity and acknowledging implicit bias are contemporary issues that confront many established institutions. Dr. Scott works to promote inclusivity, racial awareness and gender balance in departmental and professional activities. These local responsibilities complement his broader service as member of scientific advisory boards for research institutes and academic basic science departments in medical schools in the US, Australia, Asia and Europe. Dr. Scott’s work with an international cell-signaling consortium cultivates research opportunities for UW students and faculty though scientific exchange with their counterparts in Asia and Europe. Dr. Scott is a fellow of the Royal Society, London, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
