个人简介
James K. Breakall (M’89) received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, USA, in 1973 and 1975, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and applied physics from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, USA, in 1983.
He was a Project Engineer with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Livermore, CA, USA, where he was involved in the development of the numerical electromagnetics code (NEC), the first sophisticated antenna modeling program. He was an Associate Professor with the Naval Postgraduate School (NPGS), Monterey, CA, USA. He was a Graduate Student with the Arecibo Observatory, Puerto Rico, where he was involved in antenna analysis and radar probing of the ionosphere. He has been a Consultant with Saber Systems, Inc., Warrington, PA, USA, to the US Army, Navy, and Air Force. He is currently a Professor of electrical engineering with The Pennsylvania State University. Other significant projects that he has worked on were the designs of the HAARP facility in Alaska, both HF facilities at Arecibo, and the Kinstar low-profile AM broadcast antenna. He is the inventor of the optimized wideband antenna (OWA).
Dr. Breakall is a member of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society, Eta Kappa Nu, International Union of Radio Science Commission B, and the IEEE Wave Propagation and Standards Committee. He was the Treasurer and Board Member of the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES) and served as an Arecibo Observatory Users and Scientific Advising Committee Member. He has graduated numerous graduate students. He has received many awards over the years from ACES and the IEEE Broadcast Society. He was a recipient of the prestigious Sarnoff Citation from the Radio Club of America (RCA) in 2017, the oldest wireless and communications society in the USA. In 2018, he was elected to the Board of Directors of RCA. He has been an Associate Editor of the Radio Science
