Biography
Dr. Daley is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine. He is fellowship-trained in emergency ultrasound and research. His research interests are in resuscitation and diagnostic testing, particularly the use of point-of-care echocardiogram in critically ill patients as well as novel endovascular interventions for resuscitation.
Dr. Daley serves as the principal investigator for The use of resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) as an adjunct to advanced cardiac life support in non-traumatic cardiac arrest: an early feasibility trial, assessing the safety and feasibility of the use of the ER-REBOA™ catheter in medical cardiac arrest patients. Additionally, he is the Yale site principal investigator for the clinical trial Ultrasound Data Collection of Common Femoral Vasculature a single-arm, non-controlled, observational study to observationally collect 3-dimensional (3D) ultrasound images using commercially-available ultrasound imaging equipment that will inform the development of the artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm. Previously, Dr. Daley served as the principal investigator for Using Focused Bedside Echocardiography to Evaluate for Pulmonary Embolism (PE) in the Unstable Patient a prospective, multi-center, observational study examining the diagnostic capabilities of bedside ultrasound, including a relatively novel technique to the emergency department known as TAPSE, for detecting pulmonary embolism in critically ill patients with unstable vital signs.
Dr. Daley has been funded by the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM): Academy of Emergency Ultrasound for early pulmonary embolism detection in critically ill patients and the American Heart Association (AHA) and Pyrtime Medical, Inc. for the use of REBOA in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients. He is currently funded by the Department of Defense (DoD), in partnership with Philips North America LLC, to help develop automated intelligence (AI) algorithms for vascular access via ultrasound imaging.
In addition to his research, Dr. Daley has lectured or presented at various conferences and universities around the United States and been a guest expert on two Emergency Medicine podcasts. He has authored several Emergency Medicine textbook chapters and has been a primary or co-author on over ten peer-reviewed manuscripts.
Dr. Daley completed an Emergency Medicine residency and an Emergency Ultrasound and Research fellowship at Yale University/Yale-New Haven Hospital. Dr. Daley received his MD, MS, and MPH from Boston University and is originally from the Boston
