I. Bing Tan

I. Bing Tan received the M.D. degree in medicine from the University of Leiden, The Netherlands, in 1980, and the Ph.D. degree in medical science from Roussy, Villejuif, France, in 1986. He is currently a Senior Staff Member in the Department of Head and Neck Oncology and Surgery, Netherlands Cancer Institute, and with the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Academic Medical Centre, both in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He was trained as an otorhinolaryngologist at the Free University, Amsterdam by Prof. (Dr.) G. B. Snow. As a Fellow with the Netherlands Cancer Foundation, he was trained in head and neck surgical oncology at the Free University, the Netherlands Cancer Institute, and the Institute Gustave Roussy, Paris, France. He is a recognized authority in the field of photodynamic therapy and has a special interest in voice restoration after total laryngectomy. He is also involved in a collaboration program between the Universities of Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Indonesia and the Netherlands Cancer Institute, which is sponsored by the Dutch Cancer Foundation and the European Community and has resulted in an ASIA/Link grant. Since 2007, he has also been appointed as an extra-ordinary Professor with medical faculty of the Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He is the author or coauthor of 45 papers, 38 of which can be traced back through Pubmed and he has presented numerous papers at international head and neck conferences, mainly dealing with photodynamic therapy and rehabilitation after total laryngectomy.
