I worked in the Institute of Industrial Research before moving to School of Creative Technologies as Head of the Intelligent Systems & Biomedical Robotics Group (ISR). I previously worked in industry on large-scale industrial control and system integration projects, and held research appointments at the Universities of London and Aberdeen. My research focuses on machine intelligence, multisensor fusion, fault diagnostics, fuzzy and qualitative reasoning, knowledge representation, motion planning and their applications to embedded robotic systems and web-based systems, particularly those approaches which could make contributions to the intelligent connection of perception to action. I have been supported in my work by the Royal Society, EPSRC, EU 7th Framework Programme, SEEDA, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and the British Council, as well as national and international industrial and academic partners.
