Hongbo Deng

Now I am with Alibaba Group, leading a R&D team to develop and apply advanced algorithms on search and recommendation for e-commerce business. Before that, I was a Software Engineer at Google working on search quality and intelligence for Google Apps, and a Senior Research Scientist at Yahoo! Labs/Research, leading and managing the query understanding science team for Yahoo search. I also worked at UIUC as a Research Scientist with Prof. Jiawei Han, and did a lot of research on text mining and heterogeneous network. Prior to that, My dissertation was on information retrieval, data mining, and machine learning techniques for query log analysis and expertise retrieval, advised by Prof. Michael Lyu and Prof. Irwin King.
