His professional interests lie in the broad area of multimedia signal processing and communications.
He was an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology from 2004 to 2010, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing from 1992 to 1994, and Pattern Recognition from 1989 to 1999. He served as a Guest Editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology in 1999, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia in 2011, IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal Processing in 2014, and Springer Multimedia Tools and Applications in 2015. He was a General Co-Chair of 2019 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing. Currently, he serves on the IEEE Signal Processing Society Awards Board, the Senior Editorial Board of the IEEE Journal on Selected Topics in Signal Processing, the IEEE Signal Processing Society Conferences Board, and the IEEE James H. Mulligan, Jr. Education Medal Committee.
