Besides my main work in artificial intelligence, I pursued various non-degree studies, including psychology, linguistics, and literature. In 1996, I spent one year at the University of California, Irvine, where I wrote a part of my Ph.D. thesis, and held courses in logic and artificial intelligence. I went to Japan in 1998, in order to carry out postdoctoral research in artificial intelligence at the University of Tokyo, in Ishizuka Lab. From 2000 to 2004, I have been a Research Associate in the same lab at the University of Tokyo. I have been involved in research and coordination of the human-computer interface project part of the Program for the Future.

Since April 2012, I am a Professor at the National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Tokyo. I am co-opted as Professor at The Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI), School of Multidisciplinary Sciences, Department of Informatics (NII). I joined NII in 2004, and SOKENDAI in 2005, as Associate Professor.
