Research summary
Search for high-temperature superconductors and new quantum phases
In the technological development, it is crucially important to design innovative materials. However, it remains difficult to design desirable materials based on purely theoretical prediction. This is because complex physical systems may exhibit behavior that cannot be understood only in terms of the laws governing their microscopic constituents, such as atoms and electrons. For example, superconductivity is a phenomenon that shows quantummechanical effects on a macroscopic scale. In this case, we need the fundamental principles, different from the laws governing individual electrons. In our laboratory, we work on clarifying curious physical properties in some topical materials based on the electronic structure, and constructing new theoretical concepts. In addition, we aim to make predictions of new sort of properties and new quantum phases, and design new high-temperature superconductors from the long-term perspective.
