Hazim's research experience in indoor environment research spans more than 25 years. In particular he has been responsible for developing three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics programs for the simulation of airflow inside and outside buildings. The work resulted in producing the CFD code ARIA in the late 1980's and more recently the code VORTEX. This software is unique as it has been developed specifically for simulating the airflow and heat transfer in and around buildings. It is capable of simulating the radiative as well as the convective heat transfer processes both of which are required for the prediction of thermal comfort, air quality and contaminant distribution in buildings. The code can also be used for predicting the dynamic processes of fire and smoke spread in buildings and other enclosures.
