My research interests include the neuropathology, transcriptomics and genetic epidemiology of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease (AD) and alcohol-related brain damage. My research group primarily uses human postmortem brain tissue, but we are also involved in collaborative teams that utilise neuroimaging, patient-derived stem cells and transgenic animal models to understand the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases. I am also the Leader of the 'Brain and Body' research node at the Charles Perkins Centre that aims to understand the bidirectional relationships between the brain and systemic chronic disorders such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and obesity.
